Hall of Fame Inductees
Dr. Ernest Little graduated from JHS in 1907, earned
degrees from the University of Rochester
and Columbia University and did graduate work at the
University of Graz in Austria. He was appointed Dean of
the New Jersey College of Pharmacy in 1926, was
instrumental in the college’s incorporation into the
State University of NJ at Rutgers and was elected
President of the American Pharmaceutical Association.
Dr. Little is deceased.

Major General Daniel C. Doubleday graduated from JHS in
1923, then from the US Military Academy in 1929 and the
National War College in 1950. He was prominent in the
development of aviation communications and navigation
equipment, including the first use of instrument landing
systems, aircraft bombing radars and many other
forerunners of today’s standard equipment. He was
awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Legion of
Merit and the Order of the British Empire. He is buried
in Arlington National Cemetery.

Richard McGuire graduated from JHS in 1945, earned a BS
from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, an MA
from Columbia University, an MST from Union College and
school administrator’s certification from SUNY Albany.
He began a long and distinguished career in education in
1951, serving as a science teacher, physics teacher, and
coach, retiring as principal of Scotia Glenville High
School in 1990 and then serving as GJSD Interim
Superintendent. He is active in community service and
recently completed a six-year term on the GJSD Board of
Education.

Barbara McMartin, Valedictorian of the JHS Class of
1949, graduated cum laude from Vassar College, earned a
Master’s degree from Hunter College and a PhD from the
Graduate Division of City University of New York. An
environmental advocate for the Adirondack Park and
Forest Preserve, she was the prolific author of
twenty-five guidebooks and histories of the Adirondack
region, and served on the NYS DEC Forest Preserve
Advisory Committee for twenty-three years. Ms. McMartin
is deceased.
G. Wallace Hart, a 1978 graduate of JHS, became the
youngest ever GJSD Board of Education member when
elected in 1979. He attended Fulton Montgomery Community
College, established a popular local business formerly
known as Wally’s Diner, and currently serves as
President of the Fulton County Regional Chamber of
Commerce & Industry. Mr. Hart is a member of numerous
community service organizations, and generously
volunteers his personal time and financial support to
many worthwhile causes.
