PTA Reflections Showcase

Five Johnstown School District students learned recently that their works of art will advance to judging at the New York State level in the National PTA Reflections Program for 2010-2011.

Congratulations to Knox seventh grader Monica DiScioscia (dance), Pleasant Avenue fifth grade students Alex Thiessen (literature) and Lauryn Wilson (literature); Pleasant Avenue sixth grader Julia Marrone (visual arts); and Pleasant Avenue first grader Shawn Ammann (literature), whose creations were selected to move on.

A total of 31 entries from students in Johnstown, Fonda Fultonville and Canajoharie were submitted for consideration in the the Mohawk Valley Region PTA Reflections Showcase, which was hosted at Fonda Fultonville's elementary school library on December 14, 2010. Other Johnstown students creating artworks for the Showcase included Alexis Houser (honorable mention), Jackson Haverly, Michael Simone (honorable mention), Emilia Haverly, Heidi Chamberlain and Peter VanDenburgh. All participants will receive a certificate and gift from the Mohawk Valley Region PTA.

Reflections is a cultural arts program that encourages students to express thoughts and feelings through creative arts in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts. The 2010-2011 Reflections theme is "Together we can." Visit the National PTA web site to learn more about the Reflections program.
