Five Johnstown
School District students learned recently that their works
of art
will advance to judging at
the New York State level in the National PTA Reflections Program
for 2010-2011.
Congratulations to Knox seventh grader Monica DiScioscia
(dance), Pleasant Avenue fifth grade students Alex
Thiessen (literature) and Lauryn Wilson (literature);
Pleasant Avenue sixth grader Julia Marrone (visual arts);
and Pleasant Avenue first grader Shawn Ammann
(literature), whose creations were selected to move on.
A total of 31 entries from students in Johnstown, Fonda
Fultonville and Canajoharie were submitted for
consideration in the the Mohawk Valley Region PTA
Reflections Showcase, which was hosted at Fonda Fultonville's elementary school library on December 14,
2010. Other Johnstown students creating artworks for the
Showcase included Alexis Houser (honorable mention),
Jackson Haverly, Michael Simone (honorable mention),
Emilia Haverly, Heidi Chamberlain and Peter VanDenburgh.
All participants will receive a certificate and gift from
the Mohawk Valley Region PTA.
Reflections is a cultural
arts program that encourages students to express thoughts
and feelings through creative arts in the categories of
dance choreography, film production, literature, musical
composition, photography and visual arts. The 2010-2011
Reflections theme is "Together we can."
