2006 Baronet Dedicated to Madame Lais
Three editors of the Johnstown High School Baronet dedicated the 2006 yearbook to high school French teacher Madame Lais on June 5. Each year, high school students choose an individual to dedicate the yearbook to. Mrs. Connie Lais was chosen because of her dedication to the school — both as a student and as a teacher. She was an honor graduate of Johnstown High School and an active member of the National Honor Society, chorus and the Future Teachers of America. After college she returned to her old “stomping ground” to teach. Lais has remained active as a teacher in the district for over 30 years.

Madame Lais is a true Lady of Johnstown. As a graduate of Johnstown High School, she maintained above a 90 percent average and was a member of the National Honor Society, Chorus and the Future Teachers of America. This Johnstown faithful returned to Knox to begin her lifetime career in teaching. Madame Lais first began by bringing French to Knox, and then spread this language of love to both Knox and the high school. One may find Madame just about anywhere as she continually shows her support for our sirs and ladies. As a cheerleader during a pep rally, grooving at the Homecoming dance, and at many fundraisers for her French Exchange, she embodies the school spirit of our castle.

Madame Lais was instrumental in creating the French Exchange program. In 1999, JHS students traveled to Bellegarde, France to attend high school classes and live with French families. The following year, the French students came to Johnstown to experience an American high school and enjoy their first Thanksgiving holiday. Madame Lais was quoted as saying, "The kids from both sides of the Atlantic are in for a complete family and county cultural exchange." Once again she showed her passion for bringing the French language, history and culture to the life of her students.

Madame Lais is always busy in our castle. Besides teaching classes, she keeps our lobby bulletin board up to date with the happenings to encourage all the sirs and ladies to be involved in and around the castle. She is truly a gracious Lady and we are privileged to dedicate this yearbook to her honor.
