Spring Athletes of the Week |
May
7 - 11, 2012:
Softball
The
athletes of the week for softball are Lindsay Achzet
and Brynn Hlozansky. This past week, the Lady Bills
softball team split games against South Glens Falls and
Queensbury. The Lady Bills went down in defeat, 14-3, to
the number one ranked team in the state for class A,
South Glens Falls. In the second game of the week, the
Lady Bills were able to turn the table on league rival
Queensbury, by winning 3-2. Lindsay Achzet led the team
this week going 4 for 6 batting, scored 2 runs and had a
2 - run homer in the game against Queensbury. As a
senior, Lindsay has learn to become selective at the
plate and wait for her pitch. Congratulations Lindsay.
Brynn Hlozansky went 2 for six 6this week and with a
triple and 3 rbi's. No rbi was more important than the
one against Queensbury on Friday. Brynn's RBI single in
the fourth inning was the game winner. With the win on
Friday, the Lady Bills are 7-4 in the Foothills and 9-7
overall.

May 4, 2012:
Track & Field
Allicyn
Stoutner has been a positive influence to the team.
She is always willing to try new things for the team's
benefit and she isn't afraid of a challenge. She is
prepared and mentally ready to tackle anything ahead of
her so she can succeed. She sets a great example for our
team and is a great team player.
Courtney Cirillo - Aside from being a team
player, Courtney has contributed in various ways to our
team this year. She never complains about the amount of
work that is to be done and is the first one to start
it. Courtney sets an example for her fellow teammates
and does what is right, if it isn't always the easiest
thing to do. She is a great addition to our team and has
come a long way on the track
Alec Hornidge has really shined this year on and
off the track. He takes the work given to him and makes
it a challenge, always trying to better himself for the
team. Alec takes his work seriously and sets goals for
himself being a great example for other members of the
team. He is always willing to help and never says "No"
to anything you ask of him.
Matthew Miller has really stepped up this season;
you do not need to tell Matt what needs to be done,
because chances are he is already doing it. Matt makes
the hard days easier for the team because he is willing
to work hard every single day and pushes the team to do
better while he does it. Matt loves a challenge and is
self motivated to get better every single day. He is a
motivator and has a great attitude and character, and it
shows on and off the track.

23-27, 2012:
Boys Lacrosse
The
boys lacrosse program would like to congratulate Troy
Palmer and Tyler Dick for earning the Athlete of the
week awards for Boys Lacrosse. Coach Petrie states that
they are hard working students who show up every day to
work and push their teammates to be the best they can
be. They both have been a pleasure to coach this season. |
April 16 - 20, 2012:
Girls Lacrosse
Skylar Swatt - For her outstanding play during both
the Glens Falls and Scotia game. She was an integral
part of our scoring drive in Glens Falls, having picked
off the pass in front of our goalie to move the ball
down the field, ultimately passing the ball to Emma
Heroth for a score that rallied the team, as well as
scoring a goal. In the Scotia-Glenville game, Skylar
helped her team with 2 goals and 1 assist, never
quitting and helping to make the contest close.
Emma Heroth - With 1 goal and 1 assist against a
formidable Glens Falls goalie, Emma stepped up her game
play and involvement to also be helpful to her teammates
during a difficult game. During the Scotia-Glenville
game, Emma kept helped her team out with 2 goals and 1
assist and 9 ground ball controls.
Mallory Hansen - One of the two captains of the
team, Mallory helped her team this week snapping up 2
goals, 17 ground balls, and 7 draw controls in 2 games.
Mallory was an integral part of the momentum to get the
ball from defense to offense in both contests and was
the team motivator - helping to inspire the team to take
their play up to the next level. |

February
6 - 18, 2012:
Cross Country Ski
Kyle Pollak excels both on and off the trails. He is
a fierce competitor who willingly accepts challenges and
gives all of himself in his pursuits. He has been our
top male skier the entire season, consistently placing
in the top 20 with a season’s best 12th place finish. He
is an extremely bright and conscientious student who
works hard to achieve all that he can in the classroom.
Quincey Brabant always pushes herself and does more
than what is asked of her. Despite never having skated
or raced on skis, she started in the fifth varsity spot
and worked hard to enter sectionals in the second
varsity spot for Johnstown. Quincey also works hard
academically and is an outstanding student. |
February
6 - 18, 2012:
Alpine Ski
Helaina Stergas and Colin Dalmata are student
athletes who are a pleasure to coach due to their
willingness, hard work, relentless expectations and
character. They both push the entire team to be the best
as well as their own performances on the slopes.

23 - February 4, 2012: Cheerleading
Cheryl Walsh & Ashley Nichols have been
outstanding members of the basketball cheerleading team.
The two seniors always step up to the plate, encourage
enthusiasm and work with the rest of the squad to make
sure no one misses a beat. Their dedication and hard
work really are impressive!

January
23 - February 4, 2012: Boys Basketball
The
resilience of
Nate Sweetman allowed him to hit the game winning
shot versus Queensbury, securing a 49-46 victory for the
Sir Bills. The senior co-captain shows great character
on and off of the court and is a great role model for
all student-athletes.
Mitch Vdoviak has been a great leader on the court
this year. During the Sir Bills five game winning
streak, he averaged 22.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per
game. His positive attitude and never quit mentality are
major factors in his success. |
January
9 - 21, 2012: Wrestling
Patrick Morrison and Austen Manchester are team
captains and have show great leadership. Patrick holds a
22-8 record and leads the team in most tournament and
dual meet wins this season. Austen has a great work
ethic and is the team's most improved wrestler so far.

December
26, 2011 - January 7, 2012: Girls Basketball
Over
a three game stretch, Brynn Hlozansky averaged 10
points and 10 rebounds a game; Lindsay Achzet
averaged 13 points and seven rebounds a game; and
Courtney Cirillo averaged 10 points and nine
rebounds a game.
All three student athletes work very hard in practice,
games and in the classroom. They are positive role
models for the students in our school and the community.

December
12-25, 2011: Varsity Bowling
Morgan Ruggeri has a tremendous work ethic that she
displays in practices and in match play. Morgan rolled a
648 series and a season high game of 244 against Hudson
Falls. Morgan's consistent skill work and great attitude
is a credit to her success while her season average is
199. Congratulations.
Josh Fuller has fine qualities that he displays
at practice and competition. His control mannerisms
during match play keeps him focused on the task at hand.
Josh is always working hard to improve. Josh rolled a
211 single and a 593 series against Hudson Falls. Josh's
season average is 183. Congratulations

Fall Athletes
of the Week |
October
17-22, 2011: Volleyball
Annie Stock had a combined 25 kills and 15
digs against Gloversville and Scotia. Annie is a true
team player both on and off the court.
Zara Hyde had a strong week setting a combined 52
assists, 30 points and seven aces. Zara is a leader and
demonstrates hard work in every game and practice. |
October
10-15, 2011: Girls Soccer
Ellen Praught and Courtney Cirillo. Both of these
young ladies are dedicated players who motivate their
teammates through positive encouragement and hard work
at practice and games. Congratulations ladies. |
October
3-8, 2011: Football
Nate Sweetman has a hard working attitude that
propels him as an athlete among his teammates. His
ability to listen to the coaches when it comes to his
assignments, along with his motivation to be a
playmaker, places him among the all-stars in his league.
Nate has put himself in the position to be the one who
wants the ball and can get the job done. He contains a
very important element as a football player:
intestinal fortitude.
Anthony Young has made a complete 180 turn around
this year from last year's season. Being the more vocal
captain, who is positive and leads by example, has
earned him this honor for this week and the season.
Anthony pours his heart and soul into the football
program with dedication, commitment and a hard working
attitude. He has become what the coaches want from the
players: passionate.

October
3-8, 2011: Cheerleading
Emily Colasanti is in her second year as a
varsity football cheerleader. Her leadership qualities
and gymnastic abilities make her a valuable asset to the
team.
Hayley Bruse is participating for the first time
as a cheerleader. Her coach is impressed with how far
she has come and says that her dedication and drive are
what make her an athlete of the week.

26 - October 1, 2011: Field Hockey
Congratulations to Emma Heroth and Ashley Dona
for earning the Athletes of the week for Field Hockey.
The Johnstown Field Hockey team has been very
competitive again this year thanks to the entire team
working hard. These two Student Athletes exemplify what
it takes to build on a team's character with hard work,
dedication and the drive to improve everyone's play week
in and week out. Great job Emma and Ashley.

26 - October 1, 2011: Swimming
Erica
Askew displays a high level of effort and
performance on a daily basis. She works very hard at
practice and her excellent preparation shows through at
swim meets. She is willing to swim any event in a meet
in order to best benefit the team. She is an asset to
the team and makes those around her better.
Nicole Walton is a dedicated swimmer who is
always eager to improve her performance. Nicole is a
team player and is willing to swim any event in an
attempt to earn points for her team. Nicole does not
settle for slight improvement, but instead is anxious to
know how she can further her skills.

19-24, 2011: Boys Soccer
Steven Brown and Dylan Dalmata are both
three sport athletes and a pleasure to coach. These two
individuals exemplify good sportsmanship, character,
hard work and dedication. Congratulations to both
athletes! |

12-17, 2011: Cross-Country
Brendon
Hayner is a natural leader who tries to motivate
every person around him. He is a consistent hard
worker and is always looking to improve. His
attitude and perseverance gives him great leadership
qualities and inspire people around him.
Cameron Roten is a quiet yet very active
contributor to our team. He never complains and
always tries 100% of the time. He is a great role
model to others, always kind and cheering every
runner. He puts everything into his work and it
shows consistently in each and every race.
Although our girls cross-country team is quite
small, that doesn't stop us from showing our strong
willpower. Morgan Swedick never complains
about the work given to her and tries her best in
what she does. She pushes herself to achieve every
week and is growing to see her capabilities. |
September
12-17, 2011: Tennis
Helaina Stergas Is working very hard and has
truly taken a liking to the sport of tennis. She
earned her first singles win ever against Glens
Falls last Wednesday.
Elizabeth VanDenburgh is realizing how hard
it is to play the #1 seed on a tennis team. She is
working very hard and loves the challenge. She's
getting a little better each match. |
September
5-10, 2011: Golf
To
start the season, Mitch Vdoviak has led
the Sir Bills in three of our four matches and
has three sectional qualifying scores. Josh Brown has led
us in
the other match, and he also has had three sectional qualifying
scores.
