Education Leadership Award Winners 2010
JHS students
Karly Vdoviak and Jeff Roth were recognized as
recipients of the NYS AHPERD Physical Education
Leadership Award during a dinner at the Century House
Restaurant in Latham on February 7, 2010. The Capital
Zone of the New York State Association for Health,
Physical Education, Recreation and Dance offers this
honor to recognize one female and one male student from
each high school in the zone for their commitment to
their education and health. Criteria for the award
include a high level of physical performance, scholastic
achievement, leadership qualities and service to the
school and/or community. The students were accompanied
by their parents, together with physical education
teachers Mr. Scott Hale and Mrs. Jennifer O’Neil and
athletic director Mr. James Robare.

Physical Education Student Leader Awards 2010
Twenty-four
Greater Johnstown School District students were honored by the
Capital Zone of the New York State Association of Health,
Physical Education, Recreation and Dance with the Sandy Morley
Physical Education Leadership Award on May 3, 2010. During a
ceremony at Hudson Valley Community College, more than 600
students from 37 school districts were recognized for
excellence in physical education and outstanding leadership
characteristics. Six students from each of our elementary
schools and six from Knox Junior High were nominated by their
physical education teachers to receive the award. The event
was attended by children and parents, together with physical
education teachers Cyndi Cromer, Julianna Frederick,
Colleen Froschauer and Robert Kraemer, and Athletic Director
James Robare.
The following children were honored:
Glebe Street Elementary: V. Baker, K. Pica, C. Solby, J.
Fitzgerald, R. Gargiulo and T. Hlozansky.
Pleasant Avenue Elementary: M. Ernst, K. Lozier, A. VanAernam,
E. Gordon, J. Hadcock and J. Vazquez.
Warren Street Elementary: A. Hanmer, M. Morrison, K. Palmateer,
K. Bentley, J. Cerasuolo and K. Polidore.
Knox Junior Middle School: K. Barnholt, H. Cerasuolo, K.
McCoy, A. Camarra, A. Caputo and T. DeBlock
Second Annual
Sure Shots Competition
On
March 13, 2010, Johnstown’s elementary physical
education teachers hosted the second annual Sure Shots
competition. Students in grades three through six from
each of the district's three elementary buildings
competed in foul shooting contests in phys ed class and
the top three boys and girls in each grade then competed
in the Saturday event. Mr. Kraemer, Ms. Fredericks and
Mrs. Cromer would like to thank Coach Scott Hale, Coach
Tim Derwin and their varsity players for helping out at
the contest; the Purple and Gold Club for donating the
wonderful basketballs for prizes; and Mr. Frenyea for
taking pictures. Congratulations to third graders G. Fitzgerald
