Highlights of GJSD's Universal Pre-K program:
The Greater Johnstown School District's Universal Pre-kindergarten program addresses instructional components, cognitive skills, social and emotional development and the physical skills of youngsters. Children must be four years old by on or before December 1 and reside in the Johnstown School District to be eligible. The program does not require income eligibility. For an application packet, please call the Pre-kindergarten office at (518) 762-3715 or click on the appropriate link below (note that, because of the number of pages, retrieving the document may take a few moments).

The Residency Form from the packet must be completed and brought to Alice Sise, Business Manager, at the Johnstown School District Office, 1 Sir Bills Circle, together with proof of your residency. If you currently have a child enrolled in the GJSD, you do not need to complete this form. Once your residency has been verified, you must return the completed application to Warren Street School.

Enrollment
Universal Pre-kindergarten is open to children residing in the school district who are four years old on or before December 1 of the current school year. Income eligibility is not a factor and all families are encouraged to apply. Up to 18 children are allowed in each session. At this time, 72 children from the Johnstown School District may be enrolled in the program.

Enrollment Lottery
The State Education Department requires the district to hold a pre-kindergarten lottery each year to ensure access and opportunity for all families.

If more than 72 applications are received for the 2011-12 Johnstown School District program, a lottery will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011. If more students apply for enrollment than the grant funding provides for, a waiting list will be established, based on the date the application was received.

Student applications will continue to be accepted beyond the June 10 date.

Staff
The staff at Johnstown Pre-K consists of two teachers and two teacher aides.

Time
Pre-K has a morning and and afternoon session and follows the Greater Johnstown School District calendar.

• PM: 12:30-3:10 p.m.
