“My favorite classroom memory at Jansen is the warm
welcome my students, our staff, and I received in
September when we moved into our new school. Right from
Day One we were accepted as part of the Jansen Avenue
School family which means a lot to us. Faced with the
daunting task of unpacking boxes piled up to the ceiling
that first week so many people stopped by to offer help.
It's been such a wonderful experience for us to be
included in all school activities and really feel part of
Jansen Avenue School. The positive atmosphere that
prevails in Jansen is so uplifting and makes it a pleasure
to come to school everyday!” said Ms. Muselbeck.
“My favorite classroom memories have been when students
are really interested in what we are reading that you
could actually hear a pin drop. I also have enjoyed
reading my favorite books in the classroom with an entire
class,” enthused Mrs. Nolett.
“My favorite memories are when I get to meet all the new
kindergarten students. It’s so exciting to get to know
them. I love watching them grow and change through their
years at Jansen Avenue. There have been so many wonderful
children to pass through the doors of our school,” stated,
Mrs. Fisher.
“My favorite library memory is reading stories to the K-2
students. Usually, when I'm done reading, someone will
raise their hand and ask if they can sign out that book.
stated,” Mrs. Bray.
“I have quite a few favorite classroom memories. When I
taught 2nd grade, we made gingerbread houses every year to
take home for the holidays and they were so beautiful.
Second graders can be so creative. We were also visited
by leprechauns every year on the 17th of March. Sixth
grade also left me with some awesome memories, dissecting
lamb lungs, trips to Boston, The Great Escape, and the
Adirondack Center for practice being a team player.
Fourth grade is now a time of longhouses, chocolate dipped
peanut butter balls, and white chocolate Christmas candy
gifts to make and take home. What I look forward to every
single day are the smiles, hugs, and watching my children
grow up right before my eyes,” commented Mrs. Miller.
“My favorite classroom memory isn't really from the
classroom, I love seeing all the smiling faces first thing
in the morning. Even on a Monday morning, the children
are so excited to be back, that they are beaming from ear
to ear. I get to hear all about the adventures from the
weekend,” stated Mrs. Hastings.
I cannot think of just one classroom memory that is my
favorite. There are too many to count. We have cooked,
crafted , and gone on many exciting field trips. There
have been many highlights and challenges. I think if I
have to choose the most exciting times for me as a
teacher, it is when I see a student starting to develop a
love for reading. When I see a student, who didn’t
particularly like to read when they entered my room,
complain when silent reading is over and they have to put
down their book, that makes my heart happy. A love for
reading is something that you can take with your wherever
you go in life,” stated Mrs. Frenyea.
“I am pleased to hear more and more students saying,
‘please’ and ‘thank you’! Hopefully, they will continue
to have great manners," says Mrs. Harris.

"One of my favorite classroom memories is having speech
class outside on a warm and sunny spring or summer day,"
states Mrs. Jablonski
“One
of my favorite classroom memories is when our fifth grade
students read biographies of famous people. The students
read and learned about their chosen person and presented
the report in first person point of view. Everyone gets
very excited and involved in this project. They actually
“become” the famous person that they admire by dressing
and talking like them. It’s wonderful to watch my students
come out of their shell and perform. We have had many
famous people ‘visit’ our classroom, including Walt
Disney, Babe Ruth, Harry Houdini, and Joan of Arc," shared
Ms. Eagan.

“I have two favorite classroom memories. One was watching
my students watch the chicks hatch last year. The students
were 'proud parents' and very caring toward the chicks'
care. I already see this year's class showing the same
excitement and compassion towards our new classroom family
of eggs. My second favorite classroom memory was watching
my students interacting with Mrs. Neet's
classroom students and staff. My students were so excited
to learn a different language in order to communicate with
Mrs. Neet's
students and staff. Our only wish is that we could keep
Andrew and Damian in our class for the entire day." --
Mrs. James Westman
“I have
too many ‘favorites’ to choose only one. I love the energy
of Jansen Avenue School. The students and staff are so
friendly and have made me feel welcome since the first day
of school. One of the best parts of working at Jansen is
the hugs I get on a daily basis from some students! It
just makes my day!” Mrs. Sue Simek
“My fondest classroom memory for this school year was when
both fifth grade classes participate did our heritage
feast by bringing in different foods that their families
enjoy as part of their own heritage. So many students
brought in such a variety of foods, and we all learned so
much. It was a terrific way to end a reading unit.” Mrs.
Amy Kollar
"My favorite
classroom memory is watching the students' presentations
on their biomes and listening to their autobiographical
essay from an animal's or plant's perspective. I was truly
impressed with the hard work the students have shown.
Additionally, the essays were very informative and some
had humorous realistic story lines. I LOVED THEM!!! Being
my first year teaching, the students have made many great
memories for me that I won't forget. One thing for sure is
that no one day is the same.” Ms. Tammy Johnson

“My favorite
classroom memory is watching my students figure something
new out for themselves, when we are working on a lab or
project," stated Ms. Daly.
"My favorite part of everyday is seeing the students
enthusiastically exploring Jansen's academic Websites.
They are always eager to tryout a new program or improve
on a previous time or score. I love to find new
programs that will highlight their sometimes "hidden"
talents or skills. Every day they greet me with smiles and
say, "What are we doing in computer class today?" shared
Mrs. Braemer.

“My favorite
classroom memories at Jansen Ave. are all the crazy things
that the kindergarten students say, like 'I don’t
celebrate New Year’s Eve because I’m not Jewish, and I ate
my weanies for breakfast ,so I am so smart.”' The students
always put a smile on my face. I look forward to coming to
work each day so I can hear the wisdom of the 5-year old
mind," shared Mrs. Lisa Pollak.
"I
love working at Jansen Avenue. The staff and students are
great! I have many favorite memories from this year and
years past. I guess my most favorite is when Bread Day
rolls around and I see and hear the enthusiasm from
everyone and it makes me very happy!” Exclaimed Mrs.
Letitia VanHusen.

"My
favorite classroom memory is when a group of 3rd graders
started to learn cursive writing and were sure that they
could not do it. After a few minutes of practice they were
writing "a"s, "g"s, "c"s and "d"s in cursive without any
problems. It was nice to see them take pride in what they
thought they could not do. " stated Mrs. Noble.
“Since
I have many wonderful music classroom memories from Jansen
it is hard to pick just one. I love teaching all the
various avenues of music to the students and watching
their music appreciation development grow through the
years.” stated Ms. Zullo
“I
have had many memorable classroom moments this year at
Jansen. This sixth grade class is special to me because I
had many of the same students when they were in first
grade. It is wonderful to see how much they have grown
since then. However, my most memorable moment so far this
year has been making mummies with the sixth graders. As
part of our Egypt unit in sixth grade we make mummies
using apples. Each student has their own apple and it goes
through a mummification process that is similar to the
mummification process of the ancient Egyptians. This
project takes a couple weeks and the students get to do
something hands on and creative. I really enjoy this
project and the students do too. I am looking forward to
many more memorable moments, such as the ski trip and the
trip to the Adirondack Center. “ Said, Ms. Hickok.
“My favorite
classroom moment this year didn't take place in the
classroom. My favorite memory was when my first grade
class went with the kindergarteners to the pumpkin patch
in October. The children had such a wonderful time
learning, exploring, and playing!! We all had a blast on
the hayride and picking out pumpkins!! I'll never forget
how much fun the students had checking out all of the
animals on the farm, and then rolling down the huge hill
there!! It was hilarious!!! It was such a wonderful day
for everyone." Said Mrs. Sitts.
“My
favorite memory at Jansen was introducing and using clay
for the first time with all the classes. The projects they
created were amazing.” Shared Ms. Vazal.
My
favorite memory at Jansen was face painting in Mr.
DiMarco’s class during the Halloween party. It was so much
fun.” Enthused Mrs. Spencer.
------------------------
“My favorite
memory at Jansen was FIELD DAY last June. It was great to
see all of the students working together in friendly
competition with help from all of the staff here at
Jansen.” Mr. Chuck Goebel stated.
“My favorite
lunchroom memory is when the children realize it’s ‘Bread
Day’ - even the staff. The children are all raising their
hands to get a slice of warm bread and butter from Mrs.
Sotero. Some even ask for seconds. But -only one slice per
child.” Mrs. Darla Abraham shared.
“My favorite
part of everyday is greeting all the students at the door
in the morning. I love all the hugs and smiles!!! What a
great way to start your day.” Ms. Bobbie Jo Coons
enthused.
“My favorite
classroom memory was when I taught Kindergarten two years
ago, and we had a parent volunteer come in weekly to do
activities with the children. On one occasion, he helped
us make a ‘volcano.’ His group’s volcano was so
spectacular, it erupted all over his clothing! He was so
great about it. What a sport!! We had so much fun learning
with his activities.” Said Mrs. Tracy Veit.
“My favorite
classroom memory this year is the first day of school. I
remember the students entering the classroom for the first
time and saying to myself how eager these students
appeared to learn. This eagerness and willingness to learn
has never stopped. They continue to come to school
everyday, ready and prepared for class. This makes me very
proud and happy to have such a wonderful group of
students. This is a memory that renews itself everyday.”
Shared Mr. Steve DiMarco
“My most
memorable experience at Jansen Ave. School has been the
daily friendliness, caring, and helpfulness by the staff,
but most importantly by the students! Here are some
examples: Mr. Westman has gone above and beyond to make
sure that my staff and students are taken care of from
daily greetings to interacting outside of thee classroom
with all of my students. The staff have been exceptional
in their caring of my kids and always making sure that my
staff is included in all activities . It is SO REFRESHING
to feel welcomed and truly a part of the school family.
Thank you so much for accepting us for who we are.”
Exclaimed Mrs. Helen Neet.
“My favorite
classroom memory at Jansen was recently, my second graders
and I helped plan and decorate the Jansen Avenue float
that was in the Johnstown Holiday Parade. We had so much
fun! On the evening of the parade, I arrived at our
designated meeting place to find Emily, Josie, Maddie,
Christa, and Jewelia dressed up like penguins and ready to
board the ‘totally cool’ wagon. It was a magical night. My
son, Bill Ackerbauer, played the banjo and sang silly
holiday songs. The sleigh bells on the harness jingled,
and the magnificent percheron horses clip-clopped through
the city streets. All of the children were singing and
laughing and having the time of their lives! What a great
memory.” Enthused Mrs. Sue Ackerbauer.
“My favorite
memory at Jansen both in and out of the classroom is hands
down the staff I work with here. I was really touched by
the staff when they gave me a generous gift for my two new
boys. We had an awesome Christmas because of everyone at
Jansen. When I met Mrs. Neet and Mrs. Brown they went out
of their way to provide refreshments to the summer staff.
Mrs. Neet is a warm and extra friendly person who is a
fantastic addition to Jansen. Each day Mrs. Abraham brings
a smile and laughter to everyone she works with here. We
have a wonderful school and I enjoy working here each and
everyday and our boss, Mrs. Sotero, is pretty cool too.”
Ms. Shirley Alicia stated.
