Jansen
Avenue Student Council
Jansen's administration and staff recognizes the
wonderful leadership qualities our students exhibit and,
with these qualities in mind, the Jansen Student Council
was formed.
The creation of a student council supports many NYS academic
requirements including, voting, democracy, persuasive
speech writing, note taking, technology and character
education traits. Student council representation
highlights three significant points:
-
The Purpose: To develop leadership qualities and
positive role models among students
-
The Project: To create an opportunity to empower
the voice of students
-
The Plan: To work to support student life and
activities
How it works
Each
year, students in fourth through sixth grade elect two representatives from each class
to represent Jansen's student body. The council meets
monthly to discuss objectives and to identify areas
throughout the school that students can become involved
with in a positive manner.
Advisor: Mr. Westman
Co-Advisors: Mrs. Sitts & Ms. Vazal

As the
2007-08 School Year Comes to a Close...
The Student Council would like to thank each student and
staff member at Jansen for their contributions
throughout the year. The 2007-2008 school year was
terrific because of the amazing participation. Some of
the highlights we were able to successfully accomplish
were the following: MDA clovers, Pennies for Patients,
Hat Day for Cancer patients, Thanksgiving and Christmas
holiday food baskets, purchasing all the beautiful rugs
in front of the doorways, painting the front of the
building, the building-wide DEAR time in the gym, as
well as all the fun spirit days each month. We would
also like to wish our Student Council members who will
be graduating to Knox our very best. The Jansen student
body will miss you! Mike Swierzowski, Taylor Marotta,
Austin Stergas, Nate King, Briana Esposito, Stephen
Russo, Jack Brabant, Megan Brownell, Morgan Romano,
Alexandra VanAernam, Tim Brunetto, Alexia Brunetto, Mr.
Westman, advisor, and Mrs. Sitts, and Ms. Vazal,
co-advisors.
