Race Into Reading
Warren Street students are ready to Race Into Reading with Accelerated Reader! This year’s incentive program for grades 1-6 will run from October 1, 2007 to May 30, 2008. In order to participate, students must follow these three simple steps:

  1. 1.  Choose an Accelerated Reader book from the
         large selection at the Warren Street library or  
         from the list at the Johnstown Public library. The
         books are color coded by grade level.
  2. 2.  Read the book independently.
  3. 3.  Use a computer lab or classroom computer to
         take the Accelerated Reader quiz for that
         book. The tests have short comprehension based questions.

Each student's progress will be tracked and reading incentives will be distributed monthly. Prizes are listed below.

Points and Prizes
Pass your first Accelerated Reader Quiz – receive a sticker
25 points- Readers are Leaders dog tag, bookmark, and charm
50 points- Pencil and charm
75 points- Race Into Reading wristband and charm
100 points- Book and charm
150 points- Carabiner and charm
200 points- Accelerated Reader sunglasses and charm
225 points- Fonda Speedway pass and charm
250 points- Trophy, personalized box of Wheaties®, and charm

The results are in from victory lane at the Warren Street Speedway and the point standings for the 2007-2008 Accelerated Reader season are:

For January, the mighty group from Team Heroth remains in first place with 1,427 points, Team McCullough has 1,276 points, and rounding out the top three is Team Reynolds with 1,189 points. There was a fierce battle between Team Lisicki and Team Swatt for fourth place last month. At the end, Team Lisicki pulled ahead with 860 points, edging out Team Swatt with 762 points. Congratulations to all of the accelerated readers. Remember the race isn't over yet, we're only at the halfway mark. Our school total is 7,598 points. Keep up the good work!

The crew from Team Heroth really put the pressure on in December, overtaking Team McCullough for the top spot. Team Heroth has 1064 points and Team McCullough has 1016 points, while Team Reynolds currently sits in third place with 922 points. Sparky’s Sparkplugs are keeping Team Gilston in the points race with 394 points, giving them a strong fourth place run. Two car lengths behind, rounding out the top 5, is Team Swatt with 373 points.

Our Warren Street School total is 5120 points.

Putting the Pedal to the Metal & Racing Full Speed Ahead
Currently, Mr. McCullough's students lead the pack in accelerated reading, with 895 points. Ms. Reynolds' students are holding on to second place with 772 points, but watch out, because Mrs. Heroth's students are closing in with 769 points.  Mrs. Lisicki's class has locked in fourth place with 276 points and Ms. Swatt's students are coming on strong, claiming fifth place with 273 points. The Warren Street School total is 3,962 points.
